Where do you even find a sketchy architect to do this?

Imagine this:

A building built in the 1930's, connected to a building built in the 1980's, connected to a building built in the 1940's, connected to a building built in the early 2000's.

It’s also worth mentioning that none of the buildings share one uniform style. The 80's building is generic 80's and so on.

Who the FUCK thought that was a good idea? The worst part is they’ve installed this horrible modern carpet throughout all three buildings/connectors, so it looks even worse than it normally would.

Theoretically had to pass code, who knows though. Sounds sketchy.

Each building still technically has its own heat and plumbing, the only thing that they share is the connector.

That sounds like every boiler I have ever worked on, in the Northeast at least. Just swap “building” with “tube” and “connected” with “welded”.

thats what happens when the building owner can;t afford a whole new campus, but can afford a new building, which is all good, but then finishes it off with some bad taste.

Well yeah, it’s easy to do a bad job, it’s hard to make that kinda thing work cleanly.

(This is literally the kind of thing I do for a living)

You should see the rest of the buildings.

Oldest was classical built in the early 1900's, and the newest is a modern, yet still cheap building finished in 2015. Connected to a building from the 80's.

It’s better when there’s asbestos tile involved, asbestos makes everything better.

They could have at least tried to keep one uniform style.

I’ve seen plenty of other buildings that were done in stages, but don’t look like hell.

Yes, but pride usually gets in the way and people design something different for the sake of being different.

especially when you throw it at ceiling fans. Its fun to watch the dust rain down.

We’ll be doing demo on a hotel that was built piece by piece starting int he 50's. There is a separate asbestos budget.

I feel yah. We’re doing some rural schools that were cobbled together from 1940 onward, it’s gonna be a party.

according to my boss, we’re professionals at stuffing 100 pounds of shit into a 5 pound bag (lets put 100 units on a 10,000 sq ft lot. F.A.R. max=.4 you do the math)

Sounds like Touro hospital i visited in New Orleans. Build in the 1800s, you can see it had additions that were built in the 70s, and 2000s. Inside there are so many floor elevation changes and different room layouts.

That describes the Hospital I work at pretty well. It’s a 1951, 1973, 1980, 1994 and now 2016 building. There’s supposed to be part of the original 1919 building somewhere too.

Not one style matches. The 1980 and 1994 parts are most easily identified.

I’ve got one that might be even worse than that. There’s an assisted living place near where I used to live.

Here’s the original building:

And here’s the addition:

And to answer the question, yes, they essentially added what looks like a cheap motel to a fucking castle.
